Deconstruction Works is a member-owned cooperative serving all of Vermont, western New Hampshire, and western Massachusetts. We specialize in the hand-demolition of single and multi-family homes, outbuildings, and commercial and residential interiors, often saving up to 80% of the materials for reuse.
What we save you in disposal costs, we can focus on harvesting more items for reuse. With our non-profit partners we can arrange the donation of these materials for a sizable tax deduction, often offsetting the complete cost of our services.
The process of deconstruction is more labor intensive and therefore takes more time. Most +/-2000 sq. ft. homes can be completed in a month. Larger homes take longer, so planning the project schedule is important.
The obvious benefits, besides landfill avoidance and charitable tax donation, include lower impact on the site and neighbors (no heavy machinery and noise), preservation of historically important architectural items and embodied energy in quality components rarely found in modern construction.
Our approach is also well suited for projects seeking LEED accreditation and where public relations are important. We have worked with homeowners, general contractors, educational institutions and municipalities.
