Demolition Tips for San Bernardino, CA
What is the city's permit process?
Permits are required for the demolition or alteration of any building or structure in San Bernardino County.
The permit process is as follows:
- After your permit application is submitted, your demolition plans are reviewed to determine compliance with the applicable codes.
- Your permit is issued and all demolition work may begin.
- Mandatory inspections will take place as the demolition progresses.
- A final inspection will take place prior to the job being completed, and a Certificate of Occupancy may be issued at this time.
Where can I get a demolition permit?
Permits for demolition purposes can be obtained by visiting your local Building and Safety office.
Do I obtain the permit or does the contractor I hire handle it?
It depends. In some cases, the demolition contractor might insist on pulling the necessary permits for a job, but this is not always the case; they may also insist you do it.
Having your demolition contractor obtain the permits for you can prove to be a much more stress-free experience, so make sure you confirm with the contractor(s) you speak with whether or not they will handle the permitting process.
