Do I need a permit for chimney removal?
Generally speaking—just like with any demolition or construction work—you will need to obtain a permit before having a chimney removed. Usually, the chimney removal contractor you hire will handle this for you, but this isn't always the case, so confirm this with them.
If you're doing the work yourself, be sure to check with your local zoning laws to determine if you need a permit.
Could I remove my chimney myself?
It is much safer and more efficient to hire a professional to remove your chimney. Handling chimney removal yourself is more likely to lead to structural damage to the roof/home and could lead to serious injury.
